| Abstract | Abstract For top level athletes severe injuries mean that important goals risk to become unattainable. Feelings of impatience, anxiety and depression may occur. It was tried, by means of simple information handouts and exchange with ex-patients, to increase the internal control and to decrease anxiety and insecurity of injured top level athletes during the rehabilitation process. Three case studies are described, showing that the proposed supporting material and consultation may be helpful regardless of the initial situation or the process of rehabilitation. The repeatedly measured psychological variables of the three athletes are compared with the data of 15 leisure athletes. The results show that the athletes are on the one hand less satisfied with the course of the rehabilitation, while on the other hand they show less adherence than the leisure athletes. |
