The session explored how we can add value to the international summer school experience by intentionally introducing culturally different teaching approaches into learning outcomes. Using co-teaching, faculty engagement and strong partnership coordination, these short-term learning-abroad activities can go beyond reflecting on what is culturally ‘different’ or ‘interesting’ to foster a deeper understanding of how learning and culture are connected.
Faculty are critical and instrumental to making international field schools possible, but how do we ensure the sustainability and expansion of faculty led field schools institutionally? How do we engage academic units to think strategically about offering new opportunities? Using faculty engagement, co-teaching and strong partnership coordination, we explore how International Offices can support field school development to maximize both student learning outcomes and internationalization efforts.
